SMS GROUPWARE FAQHow many users can use the gateway? Which mail software will it integrate with? Can I send to multiple recipients? How do I restrict who can send messages? Can I send foreign character sets? How do I use Active Directory groups to specify users? How do I prevent SMTP spoofing?
How many users can use the gateway? This is dependent on the number of licenses which have been purchased. When an inbound email is received, its source address is matched against the current list of users. If the address is found, then the message is let through. The number of users allowed in the list depends on the number of user licenses purchased. It is possible to add a user which is just an administrator (i.e. they can’t send messages). In this case, it does not use up one of your user licenses. Back to top >>Which mail software will it integrate with?SMS Groupware will integrate with any email server capable of sending email via SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). Examples of this are Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise. Back to top >>Can I send to multiple recipients?SMS Groupware can accept messages destined for up to 100 recipients and then convert them automatically to individually addressed SMS text messages. Back to top >>How do I restrict who can send messages? When an email is received by the SMS Server, the source email address is checked against the current list of users or the user email address in the Active Directory SMS Users group. If present, the message is sent otherwise it is rejected back to the originating mail box. Back to top >>Can I send foreign character sets?SMS Server sends text messages in GSM 03.38 format compliant with the majority of mobile phones. It will do it’s best to convert any special characters but may not exactly mirror the original message. Back to top >>How do I use Active Directory groups to specify users?Simply set up three groups under the root active directory for the domain (it should be noted that forests are not supported). These can then be mapped onto user, supervisor and administrator groups under the active directory tab of the M:Science SMS Server Control Panel settings. Care should be taken that the number of members of the ‘Users’ group does not exceed the number of user licenses purchased with the product. Back to top >>How do I prevent SMTP spoofing? As Simple Mail Transfer Protocol as used by SMS Groupware was invented long before the internet as we know today, it has some drawbacks in that it is possible for a non authorised machine to log on and send messages as though they were originating from somebody else - possibly, a valid SMS user. To prevent this, it is possible to restrict which machine (IP) addresses can have access to SMS Groupware. This can be done under the ‘SMTP Security’ tab of the M:Science SMS Server Control Panel settings. Back to top >> |
